Spirit

Photography by Drew Mistak and Brianna Moylan

I got to turn 22 this past weekend and received the best present ever, the chance to design for my first fashion show.  It was such an honor to be selected as one of a dozen talented designers to premiere collections at the 26th annual SPIRIT fashion show in Pittsburgh.  I paraded the 8 looks from my Fall 2013 collection Translation.  Here are some photos that I managed to wrangle up from my segment of the show.  This past week has been insanely hectic in preparation for the show, and now that it is over, I don't know what to do with myself!  I hope you like the pieces I had made and hopefully I get to do another show in the near future.

I'll Be in Space

I had just turned in my final sketches and design inspiration for the fashion show I am doing this spring and thought that maybe you, my lovely readers, would like a little sneak peak into it.  These are my favorite designs out of the bunch.  I will also being incorporating the skull printed fabric I designed (which you can see here).  As I start creating the pieces, I will be sure to post pictures!  I just ordered a new sewing machine (I'm about to throw my old one off of my balcony) and cannot wait to get it in the mail.  My life is about to get so much easier.

"This collection, “I’ll Be in Space“, is inspired by the vast emptiness of outer space and its infinite possibilities.  My design ethic is very minimalist and ethereal, but with an edge.  The vacuum of the universe dotted with stars and planets is represented in my basic silhouettes and pieces with their unique, edgy details.

Black is the absence of color while white is the blending of all colors.  My collection uses this idea in its monochromatic color scheme.  I incorporated a skull printed fabric that I designed myself to add a touch of color into the collection.  The darkness of space is illuminated by billions of stars each dancing along with their own light."
